Want to know what the BBC teaches its journalists?

BBC World

You can now see what the BBC teaches its journalists thanks to the Corporation’s recent decision to offer free global access to the BBC Academy College of Journalism website.

Previously only freely available within the UK, the site offers pointers on developing a social media strategy, online journalism tips and how-to guides on things like smartphone journalism:

Hold the phone to take a landscape shot, take control of the focus, brightness and colour balance, and don’t use the zoom – move the phone instead

Just as importantly, assuming that your interests extend to the minutiae of exactly how language is used, the College of Journalism website also includes the BBC’s style guide.

The opening up of the website coincided with further moves from the BBC to broaden the College of Journalism’s international footprint by launching French, Hindi, Indonesian and Turkish websites, adding to its 15 other international language websites.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the BBC said that after removing its international paywall back in July, traffic to the site increased by more than 500% in the first week.
